35th Fighter Wing PACAF Misawa AB, Japan F-16C/D 'MJ' 13th/14th Fighter Squadrons

The unit was established as the 35th Fighter Wing at Johnson AB, Japan in August 1948, operating the F-51. The wing was redesignated 35th Fighter-Interceptor Wing in January 1950 and relocated to various bases in Japan and Korea operating the F-80, F-94 and F-86 before inactivating in October 1957. The unit was reactivated at Da Nang AB, South Vietnam as a Tactical Fighter Wing replacing the 7252nd TFW in April 1966 with the F-4. The wing was inactivated in July 1971 and moved to George AFB three months later to replace the 479th TFW. They operated the F-105G 'Wild Weasel' alongside the F-4 from July 1973 until July 1980. The unit was redesignated Tactical Training Wing to concentrate on F-4E/G aircrew training in July 1984 until October 1989, when it reverted to a TFW and the 35th assumed the squadrons of the co-located 37th TFW. The wing has conducted German air force Phantom aircrew training since 1972 with eight F-4F and later 10 F-4E aircraft specially assigned for the purpose. The unit gradually reduced the number of F-4s in operation prior to inactivating in 1992. The 35th Wing reformed at NS Keflavik in May 1993 with a squadron of F-15s and HH-60Gs, although this was short-lived as the 35th Fighter Wing was relocated to Misawa AB, Japan replacing the 432nd FW on 1 October 1994.
